Baumer Vision Sensors

Baumer Vision Sensors bring machine vision to inspection, sorting, measurement, and positioning tasks without requiring a full custom vision-programming setup. Built around a CMOS image sensor with integrated white LED lighting, they capture up to 1.6 MP images at frame rates up to 60 fps, with response times under 10 ms , fast enough to keep pace with real production-line cycle times rather than slowing the line down to accommodate the inspection step. An IP67-rated, shock- and chemical-resistant enclosure keeps the sensor working reliably on the factory floor, while plug-and-play setup and an intuitive software interface mean commissioning doesn't require a dedicated vision engineer for every deployment.

Vision Inspection Without the Complexity

  • Integrated CMOS image sensor combined with built-in white LED lighting means the sensor arrives ready to capture usable images out of the box, without sourcing and aligning a separate light source.
  • Resolution up to 1.6 MP (1280 × 1024 pixels) and accuracy up to 0.1 mm (model-dependent) cover inspection tasks from basic presence/absence checks through precise dimensional measurement.
  • Teach mode lets the sensor be trained on a new object or production change directly on the line, without reprogramming from scratch, useful when a product changeover happens and the inspection criteria need to shift with it.

Fast Enough to Keep Up With the Line

  • Response time under 10 ms and frame rates up to 60 fps mean the sensor can inspect at real production speeds rather than becoming the bottleneck in a fast-moving line.
  • Adjustable sensitivity, set via software, lets the detection threshold be tuned to the specific application rather than relying on a single fixed setting.

Built for Factory-Floor Conditions

  • IP67 ingress protection combined with an industrial-grade plastic and metal alloy enclosure resists dust, moisture, shock, and chemical exposure, conditions that would degrade a standard machine-vision camera not built for the plant floor.
  • Operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C, storage -20°C to +70°C, covers most factory environments without needing a climate-controlled enclosure.
  • Weighs approximately 150 g, keeping the physical footprint manageable for mounting on existing machine frames and fixtures.

Flexible Mounting and Optics

  • Bracket mount or direct mount options accommodate different installation constraints across production line layouts.
  • Exchangeable M12 lens mount allows the optical setup to be matched to the specific working distance and field of view the application needs, rather than being locked to a fixed lens.
  • Standard 2 m cable, extendable where the mounting position sits further from the control cabinet.

Connects Into Existing Automation Infrastructure

  • Supports PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and TCP/IP protocols, plus Ethernet and RS232 interfaces, so the sensor integrates with both modern and legacy control architectures without needing a protocol gateway.
  • Digital outputs in PNP/NPN configuration cover simpler discrete-signal integrations where a full network connection isn't required.
  • 24V DC input with maximum 2.5W power consumption keeps electrical integration straightforward on existing 24V control power.

Straightforward Configuration and Diagnostics

  • Configured through Baumer GAPI or Vision Configurator software, connect via Ethernet or RS232, then adjust parameters, sensitivity, and monitor device status through an interface built for both first-time and experienced users.
  • LED status indicators on the unit itself give an at-a-glance operational status check without needing to open a software tool for routine monitoring.

Applications

  • Automated visual inspection – catching defects, verifying assembly completeness, or confirming part presence on a moving line.
  • Sorting – distinguishing between part variants or grades based on visual characteristics.
  • Measurement – dimensional checks up to 0.1 mm accuracy, model-dependent, across a measurement range up to 250 mm.
  • Positioning – confirming part orientation or location before a downstream process step, such as robotic pick-and-place or machining.
  • Quality control in industrial automation – general-purpose inspection tasks across manufacturing lines where a dedicated custom vision system would be overkill.

About the VeriSens Platform

Baumer's vision sensor lineup is built as a modular system that scales to the application rather than forcing every use case through one fixed hardware configuration. The VeriSens XC series carries forward the full functionality of the XF series while adding stronger adaptability for more complex inspection tasks, a fully integrated flash controller, C-mount lens connector, CCD sensor technology for high-quality image capture, and a modular tube system that lets the hardware be configured around the application rather than the other way around. The intelligent Color FEX® 3D color assistant is built specifically to make setup fast, even for color-based inspection tasks that would otherwise require significant manual tuning.

The newer VeriSens XC700/XC800 models push processing speed further, in many applications roughly halving image processing time or meaningfully expanding inspection scope within the same cycle time. Sophisticated code-reading algorithms improve reading reliability under real industrial conditions, and integrated Industrial Ethernet support keeps integration and cabling effort low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and solutions.

They use a high-speed CMOS image sensor paired with integrated white LED lighting and adjustable sensitivity, capturing images at up to 60 fps. This covers inspection, sorting, measurement, and positioning tasks with the accuracy needed for quality control on a production line.

The IP67 rating combined with the plastic and metal alloy enclosure protects against dust, moisture, shock, and chemical exposure , the kind of conditions typical on a factory floor that would degrade a standard, non-industrial camera over time.

Teach mode is most useful during initial setup or whenever the production line changes , a new object, a product variant, or a changed inspection criterion. It lets you retrain the sensor's detection parameters directly rather than reconfiguring the whole setup from scratch.

Both bracket mount and direct mount are supported, covering different installation constraints across production line layouts. The standard cable is 2 m and can be extended where needed.

Connect it to a PC via Ethernet or RS232, then use Baumer GAPI or Vision Configurator software to adjust parameters, set sensitivity, and monitor the device. The interface is built to be usable by both first-time and experienced users.

PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and TCP/IP, alongside Ethernet and RS232 interfaces and PNP/NPN digital outputs, covering both modern networked control systems and simpler legacy discrete-signal setups.

Vision sensors like this are designed as a more accessible, application-ready alternative to a fully custom vision system, plug-and-play setup, an integrated light source, and guided software configuration mean many inspection, sorting, and positioning tasks can be handled without dedicated vision-system programming expertise.
